Faintly labeled, "Joanes Gagliano Nepos Januri fecit Neapoli 1804."
This violin belonged to long-standing member of the National Orquestra of Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio Bonilla. Born on January 8, 1924, in San Rafael de Heredia, he joined the orchestra in 1950, where he remained for more than forty years as one of the first violins, and occasional concertmaster.
In October 1971, he participated in several concerts with the World
Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Arthur Fiedler, touring at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and played for the inaugurations of the John F. Kennedy Airport and the Cinderella Palace at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
He was also concertmaster of the Heredia Symphony Orchestra for 20 years, and of the SINART Symphony Orchestra.
Inscribed illegibly to the inside back.
